my mare was lame today
frown.gif

the only thing in her routine that has changed is we went on a long hack sunday to compete at a local venue
she was sound on the way back
whilst there she ate grass for a hour or two which was quite lush looking

then she was turned out in a rested paddock(not loads of grass though just abit more than shes used to)

she looked slightly footy yesterday when i brought her in for the day, which i thought could be due to the long hack causing her to be footsore (shes barefoot and un-used to long hacks)

but today she was really quite sore (she was out over night on her usual field) in trot
there is no heat and swelling up and down her legs or pain.
her feet are warm

(she was back out with the lamanitic on monday night, whos feet are fine as i though she may have walked about alot in the grassy field overnight missing the company, therefore making her footiness worse....)

one foot has a very mildly raised dig pulse........
shes not fat or fed lots of hard feed.shes young and fit and not had any lameness before.her feet were done about 3 weeks and and look ok.

could it be an abcess or bruising..?ive not had any bruised feet or abcesses to deal with before.do they come on like this.?

ive washed her feet and cant see bruising, but i suppose it could take a while to show...?

ive brought her in off the grass just in case......am so paranoid about lami....

for me if in foot i would defo call out my farrier as they can find in jiffy if puss or bruising - and it will save lots of effort trying plus their cheaper to call out than vet.

Plus they do see more feet than vets, defo my first port of call

You can usually tell if its an abcess, they do go quite lame quite quickly, and often point their toe. You can sometimes feel heat in the heel/coronet but I would get your farrier out just in case

Start at the foot and get farrier out if you're really concerned. they will be able to hoof test and see what they think. If there was also slight heat in the foot this is most likely option.

Could just be hard ground, in which case a couple days rest and they'll be fine

Best of luck. hope everythings ok,

Call your farrier it could be anything a bruise, lamintis, an abcess or she is just footsore from the hack but the farrier will be able to pin point it hopefully
