Would be interested to hear what people think of this? I rarely have back leg lameness, the vet thought it could be suspensory related? Got worse during flexion tests, lame on hard ground and reluctant to go forward when ridden in the sandschool. The horse in question worked hard on sund/monday (little xc event, two people riding on monday). If it is suspensory related, is it likely to be something major?
Thanks.

Potentially it could be. If he is thinking High Suspensory and Proximal Suspensory Desmitis (PSD) there are definatly better things to be diagnosed with. The vet would probably nerve block and if that is positive scan the leg.

If it is PSD you could either try Shockwave therapy 40% succesful (£500) or an operation 90% succesful (£1500) or rest. Depends how bad and how long they have had it as it is difficult to diagnose and spot as they aren't initially that lame on it.

That is worse case and probably not what the horse has and the vet probably needs to do more work to find out a proper diagnosis.

thanks, I was thinking I had heard horrible things. He's not insured and we're buggered to be frank if he needs ops, typically, he's the only horse we've vetted out of our projects/short terms, he passed but was off today when vetted, hence why a more full work up hasn't been done yet.
Off to go google those, do they present with swelling or not?

No swelling, PSD gets confused with Bone Spavins a lot until they start nerve blocking.

If he has got PSD they are barely lame and it is really hard to spot. They also tend to have it for quite a while before they are diagnosed, so if you got him vetted recently it probably isn't that as it would have shown up on the flexion test.

Fingers crossed it is something nice like he knocked himself in the field.

fingers crossed. he was vetted end of june.
No swelling is bad as the vet said maybe slight puffiness around suspensory. (maybe vet didn't like him as he kicked him....oops I know its not that ;p)
Ah well, off to research those as it might fit in with him not being very forward, although as that was improving hmm...thanks v. much.
