Horse had a slight sprain to the suspensory branch a couple of years ago and was doing really well following PRP and shockwave and was out competing every weekend and doing really well - I think we went out nine weekends on the trot and got placed every time!

Then a few months ago he got his leg stuck in a wheelbarrow dragging it around the yard and damn near broke his leg in the process. By the time I got there after rushing to the yard from work it was up considerably swollen but ultrasound a week later found no new damage thank God.

He came back into full work following this accident but then started to go lame again. Vet xrayed and found calcification in the ligament which is thought to have always been there but got much, much bigger after the accident and the vet reckons this is what's causing the hopping when ridden on a right circle.

However I am doubting whether this diagnosis is correct so when he goes back this Thursday to the clinic for another assessment I am asking for nerve blocks which the vet has agreed in principle. I am not thinking I know more than my vets but the horse has moderate to severe arthritis in his coffin joint on his n/f for which was diagnosed about seven years ago and for which he has received two steroid injections for during this period. But I am wondering if this arthritis in his coffin joint would cause him to be lame on the right rein.

I changed my bit a couple of weeks ago and I am riding him more uphill and my physio says he is 60% better than he was. I jumped a cross pole a dozen times on Sunday and he remained sound afterwards so at least I have pushed him a little bit and have something to report back to my vet on Thursday.
