Hi.

I hope you can help me.

I have a miniature pony 12 year old. Took him inhand showing 3 weeks ago on a Sunday. In the last class he started to become lame. The Wednesday after farrier come trimmed his feet had a look at his feet & said his heel is a bit sore on his off fore. Just to rest, keep an eye on him & if I wanted to poultice it but he couldn’t see any signs of abscess or laminitis.just though he had stood on him self in the horse box. From then he has been hopping lame. So been giving him some Bute & started using hot & cold water to ease it for him & see if anything came out. Noticed bruising coming out on his heel & now just foot sore. Started to hot poultice his foot for the past 3 days & still foot sore. I have been turning him out in a small area on his own. Is they anything else I can do for him or is it now just time till all the bruising has come out?

Many thanks for the advice

If he did have an abscess brewing (which bruising can do) giving bute is contraindicated, was that under veterinary guidance?
After three weeks I would want the farrier to check him again.

I was giving him some bute to make him comfortable till what I thought was the bruising settled. I will ring the farrier to get him to come and have a look. Thank you

The advice was don't give bute to a horse that might still be brewing an abscess because you can make the issue both worse and longer lasting, and to get the farrier to have another look.

If he is particularly uncomfortable there are some mini boots available.
