I have a 8 year old dartmoor gelding that has been consistently lame since playing with his brother in the field and slipping in may 2011. He has been into hospital and had nerve blocks and x-rays, however these have produced no results, as he is one of the small percentage of ponies which do not respond to bute.

He was box rested for 6 months, and since then has been turned out in a small paddock next to his friends as neither of us could cope with the box rest anymore.

He is 4/10 lame at trot and walk in his LH, even when the limb is blocked yet he doesnt't mind manipulation of the limb. Anyone have any ideas as to why as multiple experienced vets have been stumped!! Or any experience (positive or negative!)

We really need a resolution as he is not enjoying being on his own, but the herd that at the yard in the big field attacks him when I put him back in!

Is he insured? May be wise asking vet to refer you to get a bone scan of back, pelvis and hind limb.

My mare has been lame behind for a while and she had her SI joint injected which made a massive improvement but I'm not suggesting to do this as isn't for every horse!

Try getting the physio out him as nothing else has worked! Hope that helps!

A good physio may be able to help. May not be the actual limb that he is lame on which is causing the problem- could be another area in his body.

Most likely a decent physio will be able to narrow down this for you and advise you :)

good luck!
