Diva came up lame today, right fore, no heat/swelling/pulse in any of her legs.

happy for me to pick all 4 feet up and pick them out, response to me poking them with the hoof pick but of course i don’t know what i’m doing with that!

i took her to the gallops saturday where she was fine, good warm up and cool down and she didn’t even break a sweat so not sure she’s pulled something, she was a bit stumbly over the stones but nothing i was worried about at the time, she never really has to walk over anything but concrete grass or cobbles when she’s not in the arena. put her out in the field when we got home and she came in fine.

they stayed in yesterday due to the awful weather and i was working a 12 hour shift so my mum sorted them, so i didn’t see her out the stable.

friend mucked them out this morning and said she was not right, my mum put them out and she came in lame from the field, so clearly my mum didn’t notice her hobbling up🤦🏼‍♀️

baffled and absolutely praying for an abscess to be honest! i’m waiting for a reply from the farrier and going to hot tub/poultice from tomorrow.

send me abscess wishes please! never thought i’d be hoping for one of them🤣

Good luck! One of mine came up hopping lame, no heat or swelling - I was convinced it was an abscess because of how extremely quickly and how badly lame she was. 2 days later and she was back to walking around perfectly fine with no sign of anything wrong at all. Still no idea what it was but was very relieved! Hope she comes right quickly for you :)

thankyou! she’s only just come back in to work after ulcers too, so i don’t want to keep her in if i don’t absolutely have to as that’s what kicked them off in the first place, and i don’t want to bute and see how she is for the same reason!

Sounds like an abscess to me 🤞

My husband's horse was on 3 legs lame last summer. Had checked him the evening before and was absolutely fine. Following morning had a call from one of the other liveries who does the morning check for me during the summer to say he was on 3 legs.

Left work in a complete tizz and phoned vet on the way to the yard. Arrived and checked the leg for heat and swelling and couldn't find a thing. Suspected abscess but had already called the vet.

Vet found a small amount of puss in the toe and charged me £150 for the privilege of making a tiny pin prick 🙄. I poulticed for a day or 2 but my poor boy was still very uncomfortable so rang my farrier who promptly found the most giant abscess in our poor lad's heal. The puss had just tracked to the toe but wasn't draining the main culprit. He was 99.99999% sound by the following day.

Anyway, praying for puss for your poor girl 🙏 fingers crossed for you!

thankyou for the well wishes everyone! farrier has been out this morning and diagnosed her as a drama queen🤣

no abscess, she’s just feeling her feet and got thin soles! sound as a pound in the arena but stumbling over hard ground, she’s got a bit of a hole in the crevice next to her frog (apologies for that fab terminology) so will poultice that for a couple of days, but she’s just got some bruising.

no major reaction to hoof testers like you’d expect for an abscess but definitely a little bit ouchy bless her.

farrier suggested boots for hacking, she’s got fab feet otherwise and she’d be gutted to shoe her and suspects in summer she’ll be absolutely fine. seems that she’s landed a bit funny 1 too many times walking over the stones up to the gallops saturday and has now got sore tootsies!

sick note has got out of her first lesson tomorrow, and the show at the weekend, whilst we poultice and wait for her boots to arrive!

I just ordered boots for my boy too!
He’s got the footy feeling
Glad it is a straight forward fix❤️

Very glad to hear there is a simple solution, though boots are also spendy!
i’ve not even looked yet, i’m scared!🙈 farrier is back out in 4 weeks anyway, i’m thinking about giving hoof armour or something similar a go first. she’s got brilliant horn etc so i think it’s worth a go before i fork out on boots just for hacking!

thankyou! always something with horses isn’t it! i’m just grateful it’s her and not lily, i think if i had to try and poultice lily we’d have to simply amputate the whole leg🤣

I had a really good experience with Hoof Boutique for boots, if you're looking. The advice I got was bang on and they responded to everything really quickly.

My mares frogs are also a mess atm too, more so in the back obviously, when I don't have back boots for her 🙃
