Lameness and ulcers

My boy has some odd ulcer type thing going on in his coronets on all 4 feet followed by laminitis. Does this sound similar? I have put post on here asking the question - no answers as yet!

Thank you for your replies.

I've read through the article and my horse does show some of the same traits.

The reason I ask is my horse was diagnosed with OCD, however only mild. While at the vet awaiting surgery he was scoped for ulcers, which are 3/4 grade. Surgery has been postponed due to the ulcers, however the vet feels that the ulcers may be causing the on/off hind bilateral lameness and not the OCD in his stifles.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the same.

My lad was recovering from a severe collateral ligament strain when he had ulcers. I used Gastroplus as had read good things about it and wasn't sold on using Gastroguard as it doesn't help the hind gut. Gastroplus was amazing within 24hrs my lad was calmer and happier. He had the full month and then went onto the gut maintenance. Interestingly he also came completely sound as well. This may have been a coincidence but give Deborah a call from equinescience as she is really helpful.

Thanks Walsworld, I hope your lad is well on his road to recovery.

Do you mind saying how much the Gastroplus was? I have been recommended their joint supplement.

That is interesting that he came sound as well, I am hoping that will happen for my boy. I am so desperate to have a sound horse when ridden. Looks perfectly sound running around the field!

Hi nuttychestnut. A months worth of Gastroplus is about £190 which although sounds a lot is almost the same as a weeks worth of Gastroguard I believe. The gut maintenance is £90 but last 80 days. Although I can't say categorically I feel that the nitric oxide component in the Gastroplus had something to do with him coming right as it is also in their Nutrawound supplement. It also could have been that he was no longer in pain in his tummy so wasn't holding himself wrongly. I will definitely try the joint/ligament supplement on my horses should I need to in the future though. Good luck
