OK my promising rising 2 year old came out of the stable lame on thurs, I didn't turn out and got vet out, he thought likely to be a foot abscess and at the time I agreed, although he didn't respond to any spot on hoof testing, vet gave a.b injection and said to monitor once comes to a head more will come back and dig around to it in the foot more, at that point location unknown to do any digging!! Anyway 2 days later and his lameness is not corresponding to that which I would expect of an abscess, he seems much improved (although still lame) in an evening once he's been in the barn (restricted exercise/turnout and socialisation) than in the morning out of his stable when he has been really lame. I've spoken to vet and as I'm taking my mare to a referral vet for continued treatment of lameness on monday, he's agreed to refer him, so he's booked in for monday too. Am really worried, he is a big boy and did alot of growth last year despite limited hard feed etc! Tonight he was really improved and only about 1 tenth to 2 tenths lame, any ideas???? I am a worrry wort, and I've got thoughts of OCD, DOD etc going through my mind at the moment, does this sound like a possibility? He is a socially dependant horse and does stress if kept alone. He's usually ok over night in the stable, but could it be from banging the door (which on occassion I've seen him do)?? If so any ideas how to stop this??? btw, There's been no heat or swelling detected anywhere in any of his legs.

well fingers crossed panic over, he seems to have come sound! woohoo!! god knows what caused it, possibly the a.b injection nipped an abscess in the bud?
