Lameness in 9 year old GSD

I'm really bummed out. My 9 year old, who is my current agility competition dog, was slightly limping last night. It was very subtle. We were supposed to trial today. I decided I would make a decision in the morning. If he was sore this morning we would stay home. Sure enough, when he woke up he was gimpy for the first few steps. I'm hoping that he has just pulled or strained something minor and that rest will take care of it. When I palpated his limbs I did find a spot where he reacted. I guess a call to the vet in the morning is going to happen.

Rest. On lead walks only. For a week. If still lame then a vet visit. Check his pads for thorns etc.
 
Funny, my 9 year old looked a bit odd today, nothing I could put my finger on but not right. He's fine this evening. He was digging in the box in the car earlier (there was a party and he wasn't invited ;)) so I think it's probably just a bit of over-exertion.
 
Yeah I was like 'oh gawd it's finally happening' as he is an utter freak, many times fitter and healthier than dogs half his age, but he was just messing with me ?
He does sound like he's on his way to Australia if someone is having fun on the training fun and he's not involved ?
