I used to hear that going down the road on the other side of my field hedge on a regular basis. It wasn't long before I could identify several of the regulars without looking, and that made me even more comfortable to have stopped riding and just have a couple of little retired ponies enjoying life.I have to say that while I have some reputation on the forum for spotting faulty movement patterns the ones I was least able to spot were the ones I owned! I don't know if it's familiarity or what.
One good trick is to turn your back or shut your eyes and listen instead of watching, especially in walk. "1,2,3,4" is what you want. The prevalence of "1,2, , 3,4" is very high.
