Yestersay when I got my horse in from the field to ride she was lame in walk not putting much weight on the foot and preferring to walk on her toe ( hind leg) so I hose leg down bandaged over night and kept her in on a deep bed. Today was going to get vet/ farrier to check for abscess. This morning check her and she is totally sound. I am obviously very happy but totally shocked and still worried as do not know the cause of the sudden quite severe lameness. Ideas please

She probably tweaked something just before you got her in. For example - but a human one - the other day I managed to sit on a chair with my foot underneath the strut between the chair's front legs, taking all my not inconsiderable weight on my Achilles tendon. It was amazingly painful, I couldn't move my foot, couldn't take any weight on it at all either. After an hour or so I could move it and walk on it but was still pretty lame, the next day apart from a little local tenderness you'd never have known I'd done anything at all, and now, several days later, I'd forgotten about it until I read your post!

Keep an eye on her, warm her up carefully and keep her exercise gentle for a couple of days.
