Horse has been lame on left fore - in trot and only on a circle for 2 weeks now, no improvement. Seemed a fairly sudden onset to me after being shod (farrier came back and checked, everything ok with shoes) so vet has nerve blocked and done Xrays. First nerve block showed lameness stemmed from foot, Xrays have shown fuzzy edge down lower front area of coffin bone (prob low ringbone) and navicular bone also looked quite vascular. He is 7

My horse has had ringbone (high, non articular) in his right hind for the past 3 years and has hunted and evented just fine during that time.
Then last year he tore a check ligament in his right fore and due to him compensating he became lame in the left fore.
X Rays showed Arthritis in the Coffin and Pastern Joints and High Non Articular Ringbone, with the Left fore being similar but not quite as bad.
He was medicated and put on bute for a month but didn't improve. I now have him on a Joint Supplement, Devils Claw and Magnectic boots and his is sound and back in gentle work.

So no, don't write him off just yet!

Farrier couldn't find out why my big girl was lame a few days after being shod and even at 3 weeks later! Turned out to be nail bind and a deep rooted abcess! If it came on suddenly after shoeing I would be tempted to have shoe taken off and hot poltice for a week, can't do any harm!
