Hey guys, this is a long story - sorry! My horse went lame around 11 weeks ago and was taken to the vets where nerve blocks isolated the lameness to the foot and x-rays showed that nails had penetrated the white line and there was visible bruising in the foot. He improved (lameness wise) around 50% over the next week, but for the past 10 weeks the lameness has persisted and hasn't continued to improve. At the moment he is around 1 or 2 out of 10 lame and on a circle the lameness shifts to the inside on both reins. He is going back to the vets for more tests next week but am sh***ing myself with worry at the mo not knowing what it is!! Any ideas???

None whatsoever! No swellings, lumps, bumps, pulse (obviously he has a pulse

) etc. Not really reacting to hoof testers any more either althogh tbh he never reacted very strongly to them in the first place. Can't see a thing. I really hate it when they are lame and there is nothing obvious going on, it makes me way more worried

My mare is exactly the same at the mo and we havn't a clue what is wrong - started about 4wks ago now and bute didnt do a thing for it. Vets been 3 times and still no clue - appears to be lame on right front on flexion but its more noticeable under saddle where is hopping and changing transistions etc, worse on a circle on left rein???

Back lady is coming on tues to see if she can find anything but vets not thinking she will...have taken of her front shoes to see if that does anything and now just resting her. Vet doesnt want to start scanning/xraying until we can pin point where it is...Its a nightmare, i agree lol

If you're sure it in the feet, try to get your vets to refer the horse for MRI, that should tell you whats going on. It can still be expensive though - but so's keeping a lame horse that keeps going back to clueless vets.

I have a similar issue - lame on both fronts, lame on one front, lame last week on 3 legs and today sound!! Vet thinks she's compensating for a problem on one leg, but we can't find out which leg it is. He has advised against MRIs at this stage as they "will always show something" and interpretation of them is difficult.

Remedial shoeing is our next thing - might be worth a thought? Good luck.

I have had that and the vet was rather cluelss and dismissive. After nearly 4 weeks of box rest ( during which we had hot feet) the boy was sound then two days later not 100% again. we opted for field rest as he was field sound ( and has other issues that makes box rest difficult). Now I am not sure whether to leave him a bit longer or get him reshod and reassessed

good luck
