I’m hoping in the vast experience of H and H’ers might have come across this before. My husband’s horse is a 9 year old 17.2 allrounder. He is lame left hind in trot. It’s come on gradually, been difficult for farrier, a few uneven steps here and there and then nothing. Now he is obviously lame. He has been ridden for about 3 weeks now and no improvement. He’s been for a lameness work up. Trotted and cantered on the lunge, very obviously lame in trot 4/10’s left hind. I’m Positive to flexion. Nothing in canter. He’s had X-rays of that leg, nothing showed up. He’s had blocks to foot, suspensories, hock and stifle and they made no difference. Vet doesn’t think it’s SI as there is no problems in canter or sensitivity when you prod his back or hindquarters. He’s going to Newmarket for a bone scan in 10 days time. It’s so frustrating and I’m terrified there’s something very serious going on.Anyone had anything similar?

Mine wouldnt block to a joint went for bone scan which highlighted hocks.
X rayed mild arthritis in the lower joints bilateral.
Injected and sent home sound within a few days.
Shes still ok behind now that was 2020.

You could be looking at KS or even neck issues but hopefully something a little more simple like mine was

That's very unusual. Is there any possibility of a referred lameness from the opposite front leg? In the shoulder maybe?

Or a trapped nerve in the neck?
.

Interesting. Yes, I’ve thought about neck issues causing this as I read about something it on here. I’ll mention neck and shoulder when we go to Rossdales

I’ve thought it was hock all along but it’s not showing itself yet. Glad your horse is okay

I appreciate they didn’t block out but is it with scanning hind suspensories? Inexpensive and might show something. Blocks can fail, though admittedly it is rare, especially with experienced lameness vets.

I’d want to try that before committing to more expensive investigations I think.
