Hi all!
Rio had his work up today, loaded and travelled beautifully, unloaded and he became a fire breathing dragon..for about 5minutes until nice nurse lady came with some hay that wasn't soaked and double netted, we then settled down and proceeded to stuff our face
First up was the tot up which confirmed that he was still lame, he was then clipped scrubbed and given the first nerve block to his stifle, waited 45 mins and re-trotted, much better result with more swing in is step and no toe dragging. They then had a couple of castrations to get through so we left his highness in his lovely big stable upturning the water and hay buckets ad generally making his presence known and went back to uni for lunch. Around 4pm we got a phone call that he had already had the x-ray (gutted as I really wanted to see what it looked like) and it showed that the cartilage in the stifle was thickened, commonly caused by trauma so we think his funny wall kicking has developed into some form of stable vice that has caused it. He is having both stifles medicated on Monday and he will then have 3 weeks off before re-assessing. BUT (and that's a big, fat, exciting but) a week after the injections, WE CAN TRAVEL HOME!!! I am sososososo excited for him to be able to go back to full turnout with his friends!!!
So all in all an expensive but positive day out
