Sorry i have posted this in comp riders as well sorry for any confusion, but i know how many of you have had Work ups done on your horses & i have a few questions as i want to send my own Dressage horse for a work up.

Did you have to go through your Vets??

Did you go through your insurance & what did you say to put it through??

Also i need a really good Lameness & Back specialist im based in Staffordshire but will travel for the right person.

I have niggling problem with my horse & im not sure if it's Hinds or Back. He starts of crooked & stiff with a few un-level strides, then will lift & work brilliant. Had him at Trainers yard this morning & they couldnt put a finger on it either as he doesnt look lame but just stiff & Un-level they said onset of Arthritis maybe? Horse is 8yo. So ive decided i need a really good work up done to put my mind at ease.

I have had Vet out in October & he said he was sound we did trot ups & lunging. Vet found a Virus but he has now recovered. He went very sore in his back at the same time & has had his saddle re-fitted & Physio numerous times now & not much found as well as Chiro visit last week again nothing really found.

I don't know how far away from Halifax you are, but I can very highly recommend Peter Scholefield at Hird and Partners for anything to do with lameness. He is the surgeon who operated on my WBxTB mare and diagnosed PSD when other vets had missed it.

PM me if you would like some more details...

Might be worth doing a flexation test first.Just a idea as it confirmed my horses problems.I wont put any ideas in your head best to do test first.

Thanks Cellie, i already have loads runnng through my head tbh.

Have my own Vets coming out on Wednesday to do a Lameness work up & blood tests just in case the Virus is still there. Will make sure Flexion tests are done. The last 2 blood tests done by my old vets have been ok.

I feel a bit OTT but i do know there's something not right.

Yeah im wondering about the insurance tbh, horse is insured but i normally pay for odd visits myself. Ive paid for all his blood test visits there where around 4 visits & initial Visit which was for the same thing horse seemed Un-level thats why i got the vet out in October. Then we found the Virus, so everything was attributed to that.

So im not sure how im going to stand with my insurance atm, as i didnt claim for any of the previous visits. Since Jan ive changed vets so again im not sure.

Sorry im being vague on the Vet visits but i have 3 horses & my oldie has been a Nightmare for me recently regarding Vet visits he's had loads & he's to old to be insured. So my visits have been shared between the 2.

My insurance company must hate me £8000 in two years arghhhhhhh but Ive lways been honest thats all they can ask.If you have changed vets you could start a fresh claim you havent done anything wrong.

If you start a 'new' lameness work up (i.e. attribute all previous problems to the virus and get the vets out for a 'new' problem) the insurance company will be fine and none the wiser. My boy suffered on and off for a year with what we thought were bruised soles. Numerous vets visits over the months but none large enough to claim for and never mentioned to insurance company. One day the vet decided he was lame too often for it to simply be bruised soles so we had a full lameness work up and x-rays etc, and the insurance company never questionned. The vets simply viewed this as a brand new call out and lameness.

Thanks Everyone, it will be marked as a new Lameness Workup.

Vets been this morning & was here for about 2hrs we did Trot up & then Flexions horse was sound. I rode & he was sound again but Vet did see the Very slight bunny hop thing in Canter that i feel. I didnt tell him he found it so i was pleased.

Didnt cool horse off & rested him for around 10 mins stood then flexioned again, sound on right & Sound on left hind but he didnt like the left hind being flexioned at all. There is a slight differance when you look at the left hind hock very slight, so X-rays early next week & it is possibly a Bone spavin thats virtually fused Vet reckons so fingers crossed.

In the mean time im to keep him working. If it is a Bone spavin it's virtually fused so Vet said he would keep him in work.
But Vet wants him seen by a New Physio as well. So i feel better already.
