Lameness workups ..

Your Insurance company should pay out, its the way to diagnose lameness and is a pretty standard procedure. Ring your Insurance company to check if your worried.

If the vet is coming to see your horse because it is lame then insurance should pay for it as long as the lameness isn't as a result of a ore-existing condition.

Surely you wouldn't want to put that through your insurance tho If only a lameness work up? Will that not make sure insurance premiums shoot up?

You'll have to tell them about the visit whether you claim or not - so they can tweak your premium / exclusions at your next renewal even if you don't claim

I'd call them firstly to check whether it's covered and to check you don't need to inform them in advance to be able to make a claim

Your vet will be able to advise on whether your insurance will cover. You need to inform the insurance company whether you want to claim or not. My lameness work up at the vets was around £1300. It will vary depending what they find and what they want to nerve block, x-ray, scan etc. Mine went in with one tenth off hind lameness, had every suspensory scanned and each foot, was diagnosed with mild psd in all 4 legs and negative angle pedal bones behind. You may also need to claim for treatment following the lameness work-up.

BUT if you fail to mention it your insurance could be null and void. It will go down onto your horses medical records at your vets.

Why don't you just send it straight to the vets, and let them crack on? Very limited as to what they can do at home in terms of repeated nerve blocks, scans and X-rays. Much easier to just pop the horse to the surgery and leave all day.

Vet came out today and did nerve blocks etc noticed an abnormality where her suspensory ligament attaches to the hock bone so is coming back out for further diagnosis, so to speak. Do I need to ring the insurance company now and make them aware??

Quite nervous now have phoned up and informed the insurance who have put a note on her policy that a claim might be made and they're sending me a claim form. Vet coming back out next Wednesday to confirm diagnosis so hope it goes well and they pay out if needs be as she's only excluded for sunburn.
