One of my horses has gone lame and i was just wondering she is pretty sound in walk and canter but pretty lame in trot, she is on box rest and the vet is coming out but do you think that the lameness is more likely to come from her tendon or her hoof ??

Lameness is more apparent in trott than walk or canter.

It could be anything, even just a pulled muscle. I wouldn't worry about the box rest. If the horse is fine in walk just let him munch on some grass and mosey around the field, perhaps keep him on his own so others don't try to play. Better that the horse is moving so doesn't seaze up, it might help. Also look for swolleness and have a good look for any apparent wounds. Give him 24-48 hrs off work, lunge and trott up after that to see if he is any better. If not, then call the vet. Better to save your call out fee!!!

Well she has windgalls but i think her lower bit of the tendon is slightly swollen and have been putting muscle embrocation on it 3 times a day and no differnence as there usually is this. There is no bruising puncture holes in the foot. Sorry i forgot to add this and i dont know how to edit the post :S

If the tendon is swollen i am inclined to think this is causing the lameness. You need to have the vet out as no one on here can diagnose lamness over the internet and only vets can diagnose lamness in any case. good luck and i hope its nothing serious

sorry but i think this is poor advice.. if a horse is quite lame in trot then the vet should be called to investigate, esp if the horse has been lame for more than 24hrs with no improvement and there is obvious swelling, as the OP has suggested.
