I have a cocker spaniel, which tonight is lame, he is ok with me touching and feeling his leg and paw, no noise, or look of huge pain -any tips ? x

Might have just pulled something hooning? Front or back, age?
Maybe give him a bit of rest and see if it improves, if the same after a few days, pop him to the vet to be on the safe side.

where about is he feeling pain..examine each leg from tip of toe up to his back, also feel neck along the back and see if you get any response..maybe shes just pulled something or got a thorn stuck or is there any bleeding ..check root of nails aswell..its not always the leg that causing the lamness

if you cant find anything..rest for a day or two then gentle exercise..lead walking
or advice from vet if no improvement

Been right down all legs, showered and washed them, given them a good go over. no sign of blood either, would be noticble as we still have horrible amounts of snow ! :)

He has been to mock shoots, with BF, and stays on the lead, is let off for smells at the end of each drive, nothing more than when we walk him, i have a friend who over worked hers too young and she is paying the price and so is the dog, poor thing.

Will see how he bears tomorrow, give him some rest, and possible an afternoon trip to vets. could be muscle, as met a 5 month old spaniel on monday on the woods ! and played alot. x

Ah, that might be it.

Wouldn't be the salt? My bitch acts hopping lame when she touches salt on the road sometimes, and then is fine a few seconds later, reckon it burns the pad a wee bit, she's something of a drama queen......

Possible the salt, took him a walk along the track after work tonight, wasnt this bad this morning, he is now holding it up !

seems to be worse, the less he does, so seems muscle !

you could try to rub some muscle rub into his legs
hopfully a nights rest will sort him out..bet you were looking forward taking him beating

yes i agree too many owners introduce/work ,when their dogs are too young

i race/course my whippets, and also have a 10 mth old whippy which we'l be introducing slowly..shes been doing solo half runs otherwise they have problems later on

yes i ve heard of this
isnt tthere something in snow that some dogs dont like on their feet

he has really enjoyed being out the last 2/3 times, on the lead, he would only ever be going out 2/3 a month, so would have been great to let him see and smell things - poor boy !

It actually seems to be getting worse - he is now not putting any weight on it ! :( x
