For the past couple of months my shetland has been lame, I have had both the farrier and vet out and neither have been able to find anything. There is no swelling or heat anywhere on the leg. He had started to get better and the lameness was lessoning but yesterday it was really bad and I am not sure what to do now. I am getting the vet back out but in the mean time does anyone have any ideas that could help?

Thanks.

No I dont think it is laminitus as he is kept on rough grazing and has never been over weight, there is no heat or digital pulse so I really dont know what it could be.

He has not been nerve bloccked or had x-rays yet but I think they are going to be the next step. Yes it does improve with Bute. I am also fencing half the field off to seperate him from the other pony as they play quite rough.

He is only 6 so I wouldnt think it could be arthritus. Could it still possibly be lami as (excuse my ignorance) I thought that when a horse had lami it would be in both front hooves?

It can occur in 1 foot, 2 feet,3 feet, 4 feet etc - unfortunatly there isn't a specific pattern :(

I'd treat him as if he has it until you can get the vet back and see if he improves - no grazing what so ever, soaked hay, no treats, hard feed etc.
