Is Laminitis age related, can youngsters get it?
I have a 3yr old sec D and an only letting her graze for about 7 hours aday, am i being paranoid??
She comes in to her stable to a large haynet, am i being over cautious?

You are right to be cautious, they can get it at any age & i think that it is more likely in later life if they have been overweight as youngsters.

Last year i was at the vets with one of mine (not lami) & it was heartbreaking as they were about to PTS a 4 yr old mare that had it in all four feet. :-(

Keep up the good work.

I agree.. My vet said all horses are high risk, particularly with the quality of grazing and forage (too rich for horses generally), lack of exercise and 24/7 turnout..

He advises all horses and ponies are treated as at risk as a prophylactic method against the rising of particularly pasture related illnesses..

Having lost one recently to post Lami complications (Lami before I even bought him and off grass 2 years) I am super paranoid and have always treated them accordingly..

It's such a tightrope keeping horses these days :(
