update, bhs had left a message saying they can not send anyone as nearest officer is 100 mils away, they advised call WHW. will do 1st thing in the morning.

That isn't quite the whole story. The horse in the vet section was an extremely mild case, if it was laminitic at all, which wasn't clear as it was only footie.

What was said was this - laminitis is a symptom of disease, which can range from extremely mild to extremely severe. Clearly, any horse having difficulty walking is an emergency case. But if you are watching carefully (and many people with susceptible animals have a test track of stony ground that they check their animals out on regularly, I do for one) you will spot mild signs long before they go down with a critical case. Mild dietary laminitis of the early kind is not a veterinary emergency, it's a warning to control the diet.

You were not poo-poo'd for saying laminitis was an emergency, you were poo-poo'd for saying that a specific horse which looked as if it had a mild bruise or very early laminitis was an emergency. Sure, if in doubt, get a vet, but let's stop scaring the pants off everyone whose horse is a touch footie by calling them an emergency, when all they need to do is muzzle them or keep them in during the day, shall we :)?

The horse in THIS thread is an emergency the poor little blighter :(

rang WHW this morning they couldnt send anyone until next week:eek:

so im sorry to say i had to resport to the rspca. I did how ever ask for an update so fingers crossed i get one.

im now debating speaking to the BHS about becoming a welfare officer..

I believe you had no choice. Thinking of the pony and hope the update is positive.

Great idea about contcating BHS. Good luck and good on you, sounds like it's neeed in your area. :)
 
Call the vet ASAP, put in the stable with a deep bedding and then ask for further advice while waiting for the vet. I'd rather the vet think I was being over-protective than have the horse in pain with possible untreated lami xx

Just caught up with the rest of the thread - well done! And that's a good idea about BHS, would feel very rewarding I'm sure, plus you're ensuring people around you are actually treating their horses properly! :) xx
 
I can't believe nobody can get out to the pony sooner, poor thing must be in agony, I really do fear for his future if its not being treated and if he isn't even on soaked hay. :(

Are there any smaller welfare organisations locally? Could you speak to them and strongly advise them that the horse needs a vet asap?

PMSL opsie just this second had a call from the owner.

she told me neddy was ok, and thanked me for use of lorry and that somebody had called the rspca well done RSPCA for attending! didnt tell me much more.

ive got to be honest its proberley obvious it was me, but i actully do not not care. i dont give a feck whos the owner, id do it again fat ponies is something that bugs the hell out of me.

will think some more on the BHS front, ive got far to much time on my hands at the moment and would love to be able to do something useful .

i will have a few questions for the rspca when they call to update me though, Ive worked for them in the past and there 5 freedoms are a flipping joke!
 
only update i got was from actual owner, she mentioned that the rspca had been but that was it.. no update from officer, i shall ring later today.

to be honest i kind of feel like whats the point, now i am more than aware of the rspca rep BUT bhs no officer, whw busy till this week rspca well i expect person that attened didnt know one end of a horse from another and thought the rats in the stable were bloody pets! :mad:

ok so on the bhs fron i can do something.. will speak to them today.
 
Oh gawd, I hope pony is going to be ok. Thanks for the update and looking forward to (or should that be dreading?) more as and when.
