To clarify, she's not actively laminitic at the moment, but she has a recent history.

Unfortunately she didn't even escape into the long, yellow grass in the field, she got onto the lovely short, green, lush (rye) grass on the lawn. I don't know how long she was there- possibly up to 40 minutes.

No pulses last night, no pulses this morning..... how long would it take for the sugar to cause a reaction? When can I stop panicking?!

Background: She had one bout of mild laminitis about 2 months ago when on about half an acre of short grass (2 weeks box rest, xrays done, no rotation or sinking) and she's been on a bare earth strip since. Mostly soaked hay, but a bit of dry hay as well, and a small handful of lami light balancer and top chop zero. She has cushings, and in the past I've struggled to get the prascend into her, but she's been taking her full dose every day for 2 months now.

I’d say you’ll be ok after 24 hours if it was a one off spike in sugars. Usually you can at least feel a bounding digital pulse by then. just keep her as sugar free as you can until the danger has passed.

My Shetland does this occasionally and it’s so frustrating. I wish I could explain why he has to stay where I put him.

Thanks everyone. I'm so careful with the electric fence (4 strands, always fully charged etc etc) and then I just didn't shut the bloody gate properly ?‍♀️ I'll keep checking, but I'm cautiously optimistic.....

I currently have one in with laminitis (first experience in 40+ years). My vet advised seven to ten days after a trigger event for an acute attack to manifest. In my case it was 12 days as I was able to map it back to swapping fields for 36 hrs whilst accommodating ground works. Fingers crossed yours is OK.

After this happened to me (I was on a train back from London and got a call to say they couldn't catch my escaped mare - not much I could do) I got some activated charcoal in stock and have fed it whenever there has been an escape. Its supposed to help mop up toxins - no idea if that's actually A Thing, but 'touch wood' so far no bounding pulses after escaping.

Would activated charcoal also prevent the absorption of the prascend though? I know for humans you shouldn't use activated charcoal if it could interfere with scheduled meds.
