Laminitics and Feeding

Hi all

Two of our herd are laminitics, and one is prone to it. What do you feed yours in the Spring/Summer/Autum to give them their supplements?

We've always used Dodson and Horrells lami free which is herb based and usually just give a pinch of healthy hooves with it - but I was just wondering whether fast fibre or alpha beet would be better? Again just a tiny amount
 
Fast fibre is lower calorie than healthy hooves and you can use less to hide the supplements as when you mix it with water 3 x the volume of it when expanded. I use it, if I run out I use a handful molasses free chaff, either hi fi molasses free or top spec top chop lite. Healthy hooves is too molasses/ hi energy for lami girl, despite the endorsement from the laminitis trust, and only the big non lami prone chap gets it ( he loves it!)

Ah ok, I didn't realise that about Healthy Hooves. I was going to buy another bag today as have nearly ran out but I think I may now change to something else

It's better than some of the standard feeds but there are lower sugar things out there so that has to be a good call to go for something lower, ESP as anything good doer wouldnt be able to be allowed enough HH to actually get the recommended amounts of the good extras in it like the biotin etc.

The hi fi molasses free is the pale lilac bag btw.

Fast fibre is more economical too!
