Pony has came down with a mild case of laminitis which was caught early. He's now on box rest but his legs are looking very puffy from standing in. He's 16 next year so has been getting puffy legs prior to the laminitis (he was stabled at night and out during the day) but just wondering if there's anything that can be done to prevent it as such? It's a bit of a catchy situation as he needs to move to bring the swelling down but obviously can't as he's on box rest to restrict his movement. Would bandaging help?

Yes, massage his legs upwards (it is blood pooling because the "pump" i.e. the feet aren't doing that job) and if you are good at bandaging, light pressure bandages might help

How bad is the laminitis.. ? Have you a small area where he could go out for a stretch for a small period of time? Unless there is rotation or it is severe, they shouldn’t be on total box rest (IMO)... has he been tested for ppid? (Cushings)...
