After serious swelling to all four legs and a very 'sorry for himself' Connemara with a high temperature I was told that it was laminitis? Although there was no heat in the hooves or arterial pulse. Was told to put him on bute and a liver tonic and leave him in. Anti inflammatory drugs seem to have kicked in so I turned him out today. Called him and he galloped over bucking and squeaking! Legs totally back to normal and looking his normal self?

Will cut down his drugs tomorrow but thinking this isn,t the dreaded laminitis but something else?

Would welcome some opinions?

Did the vet check his heart? Might be worth doing with symptoms of serious swelling in all four legs but no infection.

Told by whom? If not a vet, ignore the advice and call your vet tomorrow if you're still worried :)

(For what it's worth: have never yet seen a laminitis case presenting as serious swelling to all 4 legs and no hot hooves/arterial pulse - but also no, I'm not a vet!)

Good luck and keep us posted ...

I have a pony with suspected lymphangitis - lost a lot if weight, all four legs swelling, ulcers everywhere. Vet came out and said it was laminitis. We practically laughed at her and asked for our usual vet, who was on holiday. This vet was out everyday for nearly a month doing tests and things and still doesn't know what it is, is ADAMENT it's lami...had advice from other vets who say all symptoms point to lymphangitis. Over 1.5k in vet bills later we are treating pony as if its lymphangitis without the help from the vet and oh, pony is started to (slowly) get better! We are experienced with laminitis prone horses and the only symptoms she has is shifting from foot to foot...but because she is in pain because her legs are swollen?
