Welsh pony was diagnosed with mild lami 2 and a half weeks ago. One of the symptoms was footyness.. or at least what I would call footyness, in that she seemed to be walking on eggshells and would stumble if she stepped on an uneven bit of hard gound. She's been improving slowly and is now sound on grass in walk and trot, but still unsound on concrete. Thing is my farrier came to trim her today, and mentioned that he would be very concerned about the stumbling part, so I am now really worried and waiting for my vet to get back to me to reassure me. Anyody know if farrier is right? Thanks

Oh no! My old pony has just started this "footyness". Am really worried now! She is also stumbling. Farrier due next monday, but will be watching this thread eagerly now.

Two and a half weeks is no time at all to get over laminitis, however mild. They should be stabled on a deep bed of shavings for at least 4 weeks before you even get them out. There has been a lot of postings on the subjuect in Vet and ST. Phone the Laminitis Trust or look on their website for info.

Agree totally with above, don't even attempt to trot to see if still lame as the hoof could be in a very fragile state at the moment. Always better safe than sorry with laminitis.

i wouldnt be worried at all. 2 weeks is hardly anything.
You try sticking a hot needle in your foot, and try and walk soundly 2 weeks later, you cant expect them to be 100% sound that soon, even if it was mild Lammi. I would personally question his trimming of the feet.

Sure I know that, what Im saying I guess is that this is my first experience of lammy, and I'm just trying the do the best I can, so following the 'experts' advice.
Just out of curiousity, another farrier has looked at her today and told me off for feeding hifi lite (she gets a few handfuls to mix her magnesium with), and insisted I am not riding her enough, and she needs at least an hours work a day

She's bloody lame for gods sake, surely he's mad?

ETA, what is it you would question about his trimming of the feet? Sometimes I feel my yard is stuck in the 20th century as far as horse health goes
