laminitis....

Yep - sounds like laminitis - get him into a nice supportive surface - but give him a chance to move around.

Whyever did he pare the sole! Especially for bruising - soles are best left well alone.

Those wonderfully kind people who feed him 'carrots etc.,' might well have cost him his life and you a shedload of money and trouble

He may have Cushing's as well (see other threads) I say as well, I mean it's a common syndrome for older horses and ponies of which laminitis is the most problematic symptom to alleviate.

The well-meaning tit-bitters need telling that your pony is now in VERY dire straits and to lay off with the supplementary feeding

I solved the tit bits thing - with kids you have to accept that it is going to happen - I got a tub of the pura mint pellets from Simple Systems - put Bramble's name on it and that was all anyone was allowed to "treat" him with

It's just pelleted mint - so he gets the emotional gratification, we don't need to get heavy on the kids, and it'll do him no harm :-)

Brighteyes- I have actually been worryed about cushings with him for the past 18months or so as he has shown various symptoms. I was told it was very common and you only needed to worry if they got laminitis, which he has. It seems likely that he is a cusshings pony but I will speak to my vet about it
