I am writing this as I would like other peoples experience with laminitis , people who have actually gone through it hands on, rather than those who have just learnt it from training ( which I have ) we learnt all about it in BHS exams.

Her shoes had been on 10 weeks due to farrier going awaol. a new farrier trimmed them and looked for abscess nothing

My mare was diagnosed with lami a few weeks back , treatment was delayed as I thought it was a tendon as it was only one foot, so we treated her ice pack etc. Vet came

Vet came again and said poultice for abscess still nothing came out. finally we x rayed lami in off fore.
since then had Billy come doing her feet ( after he has seen x ray ) he put on heart bar shoes . she was getting more comfortable, till she got out raided the barley ring bin and i found her in field.. hobble back and been secured ever since, but still very lame, vet gave her sedaline over weekend along with fedalyne , which she seemed more comfortable on. Now back on prodynam she is lame again.

So how long did it take for your horse to start being pain free on rd to recovery.

Mine is a Shetland and barefoot. her first bout was sudden (probably not looking back) and she was brought in immediately to a deep shavings bed and soaked hay. Vet gave IV pain killers and can't remember now but I believe it was a vasodilator. She was much more comfortable within a week and was off bute altogether by then too.
She had bare foot trims and made steady progress to what appeared a full recovery within three/four months...

She has had three other bouts of laminitis since and it seems she may be IR or have Cushings despite a strict diet, exercise and hoof care regime.

My horse had it mildly a few years back, although he could hardly walk in from the field, xrays showed no rotation thank god, he seemed ok in about a week but had to stay in for approx 2 months all in all then the turnout started with a muzzle, can't remember how long it was before I could ride though, good few months, he has danilon every day anyway for his arthritis so maybe that helped I dunno, he had whatever extra treatment was required and soaked hay etc

My mare was only lame in one hoof and it was the day after my farrier had been and cut her foot back quite abit as she had a bit of seedy toe. 1 week later and she was still lame, so vet and farrier checked her feet and was then diagnosed with lami. She was on sedalin and bute x2 a day, she didnt show much improvement so the vet came out again and did x-rays. Only showed a slight rotation in one hoof and a gas shadow going down the front of it. She has then had pads and silcon under her shoes and has now started to improve slowly, she is still on bute x2 a day. She was diagnosed 2 weeks ago.

Fingers crossed for your mare.

Poppy. U could be talking bout my mare. She has gas Chamber. Going up front but pin stil since 13 July. Started to improve. But set back since. Gorged. on barley rings and got into field

The vet said that with my mare it was probably trama related rather than diet, so she is currently going out in the field for 1 hour with a grazing muzzle on. This seems to help her walking most of all. She is more lame coming out of her box in the morning than she is walking in from the field, even though its only an hour.

I have still changed her diet to low sugar high fibre, best to be on the safe side!

Hi the recovery time has varied quite a bit with different bouts of lami for my pony. The really painful stage has only been a couple of days max and then once the trigger for the laminitis goes, it then takes about 2 days for him to become comfortable enough to move freely around on a deep shavings bed. It depends on how badly the foot is affected but it can take a good month for him to become properly sound on all surfaces, especially on his worst foot. Mine is on a strict diet regime but unfortunately even with that can still get the odd flare up. I am going to start him on IR medication to see if that ups his threshold for sugar tolerance and hopefully reduce the chance of him having another attack. Fingers crossed yours recovers fully very soon.

She also I think was trauma. As sound on wed lame on sun. When I came home from weekend away she is on speedy beet happy hoof. Formula 4feet. Soaked hay. Bute. Sedalinetill tommorow

My mare was diagnosed with laminitis last March. When I brought her in from the field she was very quiet and seemed a tiny bit lame. I called my farrier and he came the next morning and did all the test but nothing, he advised me to keep her stabled for the next few days and he would come out again. Well 2 days later when I arrived on the morning she had the lami stance, I burst into tears and rang both the vet and farrier. Vet came out and did x-rays and said that dreaded word "laminitis", he put on some pads and gave her an injection. I was told to give her bute and sedalin twice a day until he said otherwise. Next day I bought tubs to soak hay, rubber matting and 16 bales of shavings to make a deep bed and the farrier came out and fitted her with Imprint Shoes.

My mare was on complete box rest only coming out her stable for x-rays and the farrier for 5 months. In that period she had 4 sets of Imprint Shoes fitted every 3 weeks, then finally she was fitted with heart bars. I think when she was in her 3rd month we started reducing the bute a little then suddenly she took a turn for the worst, thought I was going to loose her and she had to go to the hospital. As she had a rotation in her left fore she was putting all her weight on her right fore, this started a slight rotation and sole pressure in her right. So the bute and sedalin was upped again and I had to soak her right fore 3 times a day with Epsom salts and vet wrap it.

She then started to pick up again and the 5th month when she was in her stable she wasn't on any medication. The last couple of weeks I was allowed to walk her out in hand for 20minutes twice a day. When the vet came to see her on his last visit I let her loose in the school and she went round bucking and bouncing. Vet said she was able to go out in the field fo an hour and build it up gradually every week.

At the moment I am riding her just like I used to, we do dressage and my daughter jumps her. Her management has all changed, don't think she will ever be out 24/7 again. She has her soaked hay on a morning, then I ride her. I then turn her out muzzled for 5-6 hours and she comes back in to her stable at night on soaked hay.

I really hope your girl recovers soon and I hope this has helped. If you want to pm me then please do x
upped again and I had to

I dont know why farrier didnt go straight to imprint shoes

He put heart bars on but being he is world class . I thought he knew best . Maybe it was to soon to nail shoes on when in pain.

Is it Billy Crothers you are using? Would definately trust his work/knowledge! What farrier were you using previously out of interest as i'm guessing you're in the same area as me?

yes it is Billy Crothers

it started a while ago one farrier shall we call him S damage  tottaly ********ed my horses feet up .

change to a guy called Chris . Was gr8 at beginning then said not doing your area now here is Richards number

Richard gr8 1 year now he said not doing your area last time he did her feet they were not as good as he originally did them i think cos he knew he wouldn't do her again. So couldn't find any one else who had spaces hence her shoes left on 10 weeks. now got a guy call SAM he has only done her once and all he did was remove the shoes and cut an d trim

2 weeks after that Billy put the shoes on only thing is vet was surprised he put them on I do trust Billy I am just thinking maybe its too soon she seemed to improve in half a day when shoes came off then 2 days after shoes she seemed sore now gone down hill

:(:(:(

Put her on 2 bute 2x a day just over the weekend now the bute wearing off she is still sore . Vet doesn't want her to be 0n 4 bute . He said keep her on 2 bute 2x a day.
She went lame on the weekend of the 18th July started to improve. Then on the 2nd Aug had heart bar shoes. on She went a little sore after that . Then on wed 11th Aug she escaped and munched through barley rings and grass in field. Now she doesn't seem to improve so worried. Is it normal for them to be still sore this long??

Vet said its cos she suffered set back due to her escape.

Am I just worrying too much??
