I took my gelding out the other day, thought he doesn't seem right, started planting himself and not moving when asked. I got off him and walked him home, first I thought maybe napping but it was clear that something was wrong as his walk was pottery he was walking heal down first, shifting weight onto all 4 hooves, refusing to turn on any surface, stumbling and mostly refusing to walk even when on softer surface. All this behaviour being completely uncharacteristic of my compliant and relaxed chap.
Fast forward to today he's off grass and onto restrictive movement, soaked hay and hooves padded up, he will be kept like this for at least 3 weeks, but what next? I suppose inhand grazing and restricted access from then on. He's not overweight and has been working for harder and longer so a part of me is unsure as to the underlying cause so I'm treating with an open mind. He seems more comfortable , quite*content and not so shuffly or pottery. How long would you manage him like this?

P.s- I couldn't feel an obvious pulse.

Has your vet talked about doing a Cushings test?

Does he have any other EMS/Cushings symptoms?

Mine is fit and lean but came down with lami recently out of the blue. Turns out to have Cushings.

We had another pony with Cushings and you could really see she had Cushings - but this one hasn't had any other symptoms apart from getting laminitis.

Hope yours is feeling better soon.
