Hi, i am assuming as the grass has gone very green again it is also very rich again like early spring grass???? Just need to know as pony has decided to do his old trick of removing muzzle !!!!!!
Yes it is and will continue to be so while it showers/rain on and off. You can only really be sure when it stops growing for the winter - so when the soil temperature drops below 6 degrees.
Yes! With all this changable weather the grass is lethal for a laminitic risk horse or pony. Prob best to stable for the day or night if you cannot guarantee the muzzle staying on.
To be honest in my opinion the grass is never anything but a risk to a previous laminitic at any time of year...the grass is as bad as spring during autumn...right through to Nov in my opinion and then you have the risk of frost through the winter...no rest from it.
My old boy got laminitis in October, which I wasn't expecting. Plus be aware that in wintertime its not advisable to turn out on a frosty morning, especially if the sun's shining, coz this makes the fructans in the grass rise up which can exacerbate laminitis. Best to wait until the frost has gone off.
