We have a chunky cob who is non ridden. She seems to keep going lame on her hind leg but no idea why. Literally one day she can be really sore and then the next day walks and trots perfectly fine. The vet came out last time and couldn’t see anything. She is overweight and we are working to loose that. She lives in at night and out during the day with her friend. She does like to rub her bum all the time on a large fallen tree. Any ideas appreciated

I would start by examining her feet meticulously. I had one with a piece of metal (bottle cap) wedged under the frog. It wasn't visible as it had worked its way in. Horse was either sound or hopping, randomly.

If it has been more than a week, I would have the horse to a vet hospital for a full work up. The vet 'having a look' doesn't sound like many diagnostics were done. I would have full exam, trot up, flexions, lunge in hard and soft, up and down hill etc. Then nerve block anything suspicious and scan/ X ray anything untoward.
