I am hoping to spend my summer broadening my 4yr olds life experiences, and am hoping to take him on lots of different hacks. Do you know of anywhere that has fab bridleways and somewhere to park a wagon. I was thinking about taking him up to Rivington, but am not sure where to park, and the same goes for Gisburn Forest.

If anyone with a sane horse fancies joining me on my adventures, PM me!

Thanks

HI, Smithills in Bolton is quite good, you can park near the coaching house place and its set up with big spaces for boxes or trailers with a mounting block. Its mostly tracks but they have put a rubber surface down so its fairly all-weather. Ive taken my young horse before and its good if you want to get them out somewhere off-road where you can canter, but Ive moved now so its not really in my area. Hope you find something.

Thanks, just had a google and it seems fairly easy to get to from us (Junc 7 m65), so will have a trial run with the dogs this week, then take C up for a nice ride. Somewhere to canter will be good too, as am struggling to establish canter with him in our small school

Thanks again

You could park your horsebox on squires lane in tyldesley and go riding for hours on the bridlepaths and fields around there, or you could get in touch with one of the yards and see if you could park your box their.

Nicky Nook on the edge of the Forest of Bowland ... or indeed the Trough of Bowland itself, there are many bridleways with fords/streams to go through :).

Rivington! Hmm dont know how to describe it but we normally park the trailer on the road(more of a dirty track! :p) leading up to the big hall? Sorry not much help there, but it is absolutely fantastic! So many bridle paths and different places to go. Wouldn't go on a Sunday though as this is when everyone goes up. We hardly ever run into other horse riders and the bridle paths are quiet.

Smithills:Is great for a good gallop, bit boring though! Oh and be careful of walkers not realising which are the bridle paths.

:D

Pennine Way? Parts of the Mary Towneley loop are easily accesible with good parking and good uphill canters - pick a very sunny day though :)
