My beast is due to have a abscess burst tomorrow, near the lymph nodes.. Im not looking forward to it after doing some research via google.
Do any of you have experiences of lancing? Any before/after pics? any information you could give me. Im a real wussy person, so pretty much dreading it

If your wussy then pics may not be the best thing to prepare you with!!!! Stand on the other side and possibly have some albas oil to hand!!!!! To overcome the smell, not be used on the horse!! lol! Good luck......

I've only seen it once - the relief on the horses face was one of sheer relief - honestly.

The amount of of pus and gunk that came out was just amazing, as was the whole procedure actually.

The horse was as good as gold and not at all distressed, despite no sedation - just a 'local'.

Put vicks vapour rub or similar under your nose first. It's the smell that does it - it's horrid.

Actually seeing the lancing I find OK - it's just such a relief to see it burst and the comfort that it'll bring - but the smell really can be something else - you have been warned!

Sometimes the actual wound left after the draining can be grim but the actual lancing isn't too bad.

Oh, and do use the vicks each and every time you clean it, remove dressings etc.

I did wonder about the smell but convinced myself it surely couldnt be that bad, ooooh how i learn im so mistaken. Thank god i have some olbas oil in the house, i shall make sure i take that with me
