Land clearance / building demolition?

A bit off topic but I wondered if anyone had any experience of ground clearance in the form of demolishing existing farm buildings (mainly 60x40m piggeries, a house and various derelict outbuildings - brick built and wood sheds, concrete yards plus about 40 years of accumulated farm machinery and rubbish!) as we have the opportunity to acquire a 4 acre piece of land which currently has an acre paddock, 1/2 acre garden and the rest all built on with the above farm buildings and a house that would probably be best rebuilt). We would possibly keep 2 of the 60x40m piggeries to turn into an indoor school and stables etc but the rest of the land we would want for grazing.

All subject to planning / permissions etc but am completely ignorant about how much it could cost etc and was hoping to hear any views / experience from people who do this as a living or have been through it!!! Would be very much appreciated
 
I think you have to ask the experts about that. You can search the web for inquiries and estimates. Maybe you can ask professsional services that include the clearance & disposal of all types of house clearance, garden clearance & general rubbish clearance. They load their vehicles with your waste & dispose of it in the most environment friendly way possible.

Dependng on the age. the buildings may have asbestos sheeting, roof, wall
cladding. Some demolition companies will automatically add a large premium
to the quote where such sheeting may be present. I had quotes ranging from
5k to 11k for demolishing a block of three stables where only part of the roof
was asbestos sheeting. Disposing of waste is also expensive in the SE, and
depending on size of project, comprehensive on-site waste sorting and
disposal plans may be required as part of the project.

We had a load of WW2 concrete gun emplacements on our 3 acre field, the cost of disposing of 1000's of tonnes of concrete would have been prohibitive, so we broke it up and built a big bank out of it. It was covered in topsoil and we now graze it with the sheep.
 
Agree with Mike007 NEVER knock any buildings down
Someone I knew took down some old wooden stables when they got tatty didn't have any horses at the time 1 year later rebuilt them and the planners insisted they should have had planning permission they applied retrospectively AND WERE REFUSED did finally get them on appeal!!!!
If demolishing a house don't do anything until the replacement has planning permission.
I would tidy up and clear old machinery to make it safe but take loads of photos of what was like before clearance
Remember planning can take ages with no problems will take at least 3 months minimum .It took us 3 years 4 applications and an appeal to build a sand school.
Planners are definitely not your friends!!!
