Want to ask my neighbour if he will rent me a couple of acres, as mine need a bit of a rest, but i have no idea what the going rental price is per acre. South Cheshire location, good well draining pasture land. Before going to have a chat i need to have an idea of the going rate.

Choccy biccies for any replies...;)

I have rented land from £200 per acres a year, and I have paid a lot more.

In your situation its not as simple as the going rate. Your neighbour hasn't advertised so you need to put an offer to him which is worth his while.

Basically I would be looking at how much it is worth to you, not the going rate.

here (cheshire) ranges from 200 a month for 4 acres... to shared £15pw

or 4 stables/4 acres - £400 a month etc

i personaly would pay 150 a month for 3/4 acres :)

Not sure if this applies to you but i have found that farmers here in wales will charge more for horses. I was looking for summer grazing (april to september) and recently applied to rent 2 acres that was advertised as grazing land for £25 a week, when i called the farmer and told him it was horses i needed the land for, he said it would be £40 per week for 2 horses. His reasoning was that they churn up the ground - especially with all the rain we get here! I now pay £20 per week for 2 acres and that includes my stables.
Others won't even consider horses. I can see their point about the ground but who wouldn't want to see neddies in their elements?! :)
Hope this helps!
