Hi all!
Does anyone know anything about the Santana? It is apparently ade by a spanish company who made the series 2 Landrover, and similar to the Defender but not quite the same - few bodywork differences and a 2.8TD Iveco engine, with a BMW transmisison? I had never heard of it, OH wants to go and look at one to buy as we are going back to a trailer and 4x4 (can't justify big 7.5t lorry for one 420kg arab!).
I'm just a bit paranoid that we would risk buying something that ends up being a right turkey!! (think I'm also a bit gutted that I can't keep my lorry

but just can't justify the running costs, even though she's proven pretty cheap and reliable, can't have that AND a 4x4 really!)

Hmm, yeah, thats what he thought - hell of a lot cheaper too! And possibly a more comfortable ride - they have better suspension and more comfortable seats according to the reviews we found, but just all seems a bit too good to be true!! Maybe I am just a bit paranoid! They tow 3.5t as well apparently!

Well Seats are Spanish, and they are pretty good cars. I cannot help but think the Iveco will be more reliable than the Land Rover engine. Our Disco has a Jaguar diesel and it is superb. The differences may be in terms of finish and refinement, although from what you say it doesn't sound as if that is the case. I'd love to know what you think of it if you get one!

My OH looked into a santana as a works vehicle. It's very 'workmanlike' (rough), but is plated to tow 3.5t. OH found it wandered a LOT towing, but thinks he weighted the trailer wrong, however the same trailer and load didn't wander so much with the van, so I'm not sure if I would like to tow with one. Would make sure you got to test drive it for a full day and towed with it, before making up your mind.

Scottish Hydro apparenty started using them instead of their landys, but now have dumped santana and gone back to landy. That kind of says it all for me.

Baileyhoss - thats interesting. And a good point about wanting to tow with it before deciding for definate! Will let you know if we go and have a look.
