Bloody kids on Yard, popping their head up at the window and horseface spooks, bucks and throws me. Thought I was fine, went out for a hack even straight after, on dismount though - agony.
I landed right on my ar*e"!! I can raise my knees easily and coil in the foetal position confortably, but walking and standing now hurt like hell and I can only take tiny steps. Any tips to relieve the pain (apart from asking YO to ban kids:D)?

Oooowwww I did the same thing (altho in my case I was driving a six wheeled quad and hadnt quite understood the controls, went backwards at high speed into the bumper of my landrover...owwww....

Theres very little to help other than rest and turning horses out so that you have as little mucking out as poss. I used a poo skip to get the worst out of their stables for a week, deep littering the rest and then after a week I could bend a little and muck out with a shovel, tho still painful.

My retired doctor neighbour told me it could take 12 weeks to get back to nearly painless, it was probably 8 weeks.

Really feel for you, at least my tumble was my own silly fault!

Ouch.. If it gets worse I would go to a&e I knew a girl who landed on hers and broke it she was out of action for nearly a year :( lots of painkillers and one of them rubber ring cushion things to sit on. Hope your feelin better soon

Think a trip to A & E might be in order - try to get them to give you a prescription for some very heavy duty painkillers and antiflams.

I did this absolutely years ago as a kid - was at a friend's party and somone nicked my seat - wet lino floor - I grabbed them and tried to pull them up but my feet slipped forwards from under me and I went straight down at a rate of knots!!!

Bloody hurt for a while but I was young then.....

Poor you! I did exactly the same earlier in the summer. Hurt like hell when I was lying in bed, sitting or standing still. I continued to ride as I had a big event coming up which involved sitting-trot dressage! I couldn't do any sitting in the run up to it or even warming up, I just went in and did it which hurt but thankfully only for 5 mins! Took about 2 months to heal. Dont think there's much you can do. If you've broken it, there's not much to do except take it easy I dont think (google it, and you dont want to know how they check to see if its broken... best avoided!).

Ouch, you have my sympathy. I fractured my coccyx last year and it does take up to a few weeks to settle right back down because most of us have to sit down alot in office jobs. Mine is playing me up right now in fact after I did some gardening last Sunday.
I have a hot water bottle strapped to my back and I am finding it is really helping, might be worth a try, it helps relax the muscles.
They say applying hot and then very cold packs is supposed to really help...

Ouch, landed on mine several years ago after falling downstairs drunk - totally my fault!! It took several weeks for the pain to subside, i did go to the GPs but they couldn't do anything, i managed to get about etc, but i felt the most pain when i had been sitting for a while, and getting up was agony. Never had any ill effects later tho. hope you feel better soon

Thanks just had a warm bath, think I'll get hubby to rub some Ibuprofen cream into the said area - lol. I used to bounce when I fell off 30 years ago, time doesn't half make mockerys of us. Between this, my aching hips, my tennis elbow and a cold, think I'll get the poor sod to pooh pick for me tomorrow too. Thankgod I don't live on my own;)

Double ouch!!! But go to A&E just to get yourself checked out and a very soft cushion or pillow to sit on, it could be just bad bruising which is very painfully and next time you see the kids give them a clip around their ears and have a word with said YO/YM as this accident shoudn't of happend, They should know about health & safety.

Get a coccyx cushion, they have a section taken out the back to relieve the pressure point, or butcher an existing foam cushion. Make sure it's thick enough, or use two, one on top of the other if necessary. The donut ones aren't really recommended for coccyx pain as they don't provide as much relief.

Other than this, sit on a firmer rather than a soft seat. On a soft seat you sink into it and put pressure on your coccyx. On a firmer seat you sit on your seat bones rather than your coccyx.

I find getting up the hardest part. Textbook case. A gardening fall, so can't blame the nag.

Watch out for numbness/incontinence (- cheerful thought), in case you've done real damage. If so hospital asap.

I compressed mine coming off a horse a few years back. After going round the school at flat out gallop dodging jumps about 25 times I decided to bale out. Hit the wall, slid down the side and landed fair and square on my bum. Managed to drive home and get to work the next day, but could barely sit. Was lucky enough to have a work physio service on site - she was just dashing off to lunch but could hear my pain on the phone and fitted me in. Had about a fortnight's sessions of ultrasound and deep heat treatment (luckily covered by insurance) and gradually got better. No long term effects, other than major dent in bank balance when said horse was sold. Good luck, I feel your pain, x.

ouch, what an embarrasing place to have to get ultrasound. It's one heck of a jolt to land directly on bum, pains in my lower back now as well as base of spine, I don't think we bounce/bend as well as when we're young. I'd love some numbness right now - not the incontinence though :0

I did this years ago, ouch the pain :( I went to dos after a couple of days as I couldnt sit down and struggled getting about. Cant remember what they gave me but had to buy a rubber ring to sit on and was told not to ride for weeks!
Hope your feeling a bit better today

I'm not sure I cared about the embarrassment at the time, I was in such agony! No incontinence though, but it did hurt every time I needed to go! Hope you're feeling a bit better today.

Poor you - I would get it checked out. I did the same about 30 years ago but cos I was a kid I was too embarrased to go to doctors. Think I must have fractured it because its still not right now. Just aches if sitting down for ages. I found getting up excrutiating for about a year. I suspect there is little they can do but worth finding out.

Ouch. Empathy!

Probably worth getting it checked by A&E.

I got off Dizz after a lesson. It hadn't been a good lesson, I was a complete numpt :(. As I got off, I was thinking "Well at least I can do this bit right!". Yup. Landed, fell back onto ar$e, banged head on ground (really must stop doing that!).

Bum hurt for weeks! Rising trot was especially painful :rolleyes:

I did exactly the same thing this time last week!! As awful as it is, whilst im sat moping its good to hear from other people suffering with me!!
I was rinding my spooky mare on sunday afternoon and a low flying helicopter came zooming over us and my mare bolted off bucking. I went flying and dont remember what happened after that. Luckily my boyfriend was there and he is trained in first aid so he helped me into the recovery position, i couldnt move so an ambulance was called. Ended up going to A&E on a back board and neck brace. They didnt bother to xray (typical nhs), but said i had fractured my coccyx bone.
For the 1st few days i couldnt move anything below my waist at all nevermind get out of bed. Now a week later it still hurts like hell, but i can hobble with a stick to and from the bedroom to the lounge tentitively but thats as exciting as it has gotten so far.
At a&e i was given some strong painkillers but they ended up making me sick everytime, so the gp advised to take strong paracetamol (another nhs goodie).
Ive heard all sorts of different opinions on recovery time, from weeks to months to years, im just hoping that it wont be too long its god awful stuck on the sofa day in day out.
Feeling very sorry formyself to say the least, so my sympathies to those who are suffering a similar fate, its good to know there are others out there! Take care!

Another one who's done it! Backed my horse into long grass on a verge to let an incredibly wide bit of farm machinery through. Horse's back legs stirred up a wasps' nest. He went crazy and dumped me on my bum on the tarmac. Couldn't move my legs, farmer frantic, rushed to a & e, where they LAUGHED!!! Explained it would get better on its own, prescribed painkillers and a cockyxx - can't spell it - cushion and waved me away, still laughing. Took about a month to stop hurting, but no lasting ill effects, except to my dignity when the story got around. Get better soon.

Poor you, falling on tarmac sounds even more horrendous!! I fell on a rubber menage and still did it, id probably have no hips left if it was tarmac!!
The doctors part is interesting, although unacceptable that they laughed at you!! Mine didnt give me anything!! They left my boyfriend to "walk" me through the hospital to the car even though i couldnt walk and was fainting!! No info and no help, annoyed isnt the word.
Glad your fixed!! :)

Did the same thing after a fall in June. I've only just been able to start running again, and to be honest, it's still uncomfortable when I run. I found ibruprofen (or any NSAID as they're good for pain and inflammation), heat and getting my OH to be my manservant all helped! Hope you stop hurting soon!

Sympathy from me! I sat down on the end of my hockey stick handle (don't ask!) when I was about 15. I can only describe it as exquisite pain. It was the end of my high-jump career, just couldn't get more than a few inches off the ground and I can honestly say that even 15 years later, it would give me jip from time to time for no apparent reason and made it painful to walk for a few days.
