I have my own field and every year I insure it 3rd party liability, so if any idiot was to go on there and fall down a rabbit hole the insurance would cover any claims.

I wondered how does everyone else cover this ?
I pay £270 a year

and wondered if there is a cheaper way maybe tacking it onto the Horse insurance in the future or joining some type of assocation?

I really do not like having to pay this when it could be put to better use looking after horses but I really am struggling with an alternative.
Any suggestions.

I rent a field from a farmer but do not have the insurance you mention. My field is locked at all times and has no right of way through it. If anyone climbed the gate and came onto my land and then hurt themselves they would be tresspassing anyway so could not see what they could pin on me! I have insurance for my horse that has liability included in case my horse did something silly to someone or something.
Why do you have this insurance? Do you have a right of way through your field?

No there are no rights of way through my field.
It is down a private track with no access but to my field and next doors, it is always kept locked and I have Private Keep out signs.

The reason I have it is that I am just a worry wart I know that anyone in there would be trespassing but you here all the time about people breaking into other peoples houses getting injured and then sueing for compensation.

Our society just seems so litigation mad now that it seemed like the best idea for peace of mind.

Wheather or not there is a right of way one should have third party/public liability insurance. The fact that someone tresspasses does not prevent them from making a subtantial claim.

I use NFU for this cover.

You should also check your horse insurance and make sure that it has third party/public liability cover for no less than £10,000,000 as a recent court case deemed that even if the horses escaped through no fault of the owner they where still liable for any damage or injuries caused.

BHS Gold membership provides this level of insurance with your membership.

how much is the cover through NFU? I have my horses insured through them including the 3rd party liability cover, but nothing particular for the field. there is a right of way through it too. I have rented it long term and the land owner does fencing etc. Not sure whether it is worthwhile insuring & sub letting while we areaway since I probably won't dare sub letting unless it is insured ...

You would need to ask your NFU agent. Mine is done with my house insurance so the additional premium is only about £30.00
