Hi all,

Just wanted to know if anyone had a recent experience of a laparoscopic double ovariectomy perfomed on their mare, and could tell me how much it cost them, why it was deemed necessary and whether the bill was picked up by their insurance company.

Many thanks.

Ginnie

Hi Ginnie
My mare had this done around 6 years ago as she was very stallion like!
I tried her for over 2 years on Regumate but we had to keep increasing the dosage and it didnt seem to be working at all in the end. She was absolutely obsessed with boys! I was also trying to back her at the time and she became very sensitive on her back and flanks. She had several scans and had one enlarged ovary so we had them both removed as I didnt want to breed from her. Best thing I ever did, she was like a differant horse after although she does tend to hold weight much more easily. This was covered on my insurance at the time
