large bale haylage

I use large bales, they last longer in the cold weather than when it is warm, also if it is made fairly dry it will last longer. I feed at the moment just 3 on a medium bale, I get the bigger ones once mine come in at night, it will last about 10 days as they are not eating much when in during the day. In winter I will use about one every 4- 5 days feeding around 5 or 6, I give it adlb so it can vary depending on how much they are in or how cold it is, they do eat lots more when it gets very cold.

we use the large bales and on lasts a couple of weeks on 2 horses but now with 3 and a 1/2 (foal!) and it being winter its 1 per week, when its hot we just take the haylage out of the wrapping and put it in the barn, or into haynets or just cover it with tarpauline so it dosent sweat

I only have 2 horses and dont order big bale haylage until they really need it and the weather is really cold - usually beginning Dec - they then get through it in about 10 days. I also stop feeding it end of Feb as it starts to get too warm and they dont need as much just before grass comes through - I use small bale hay instead if needed beginning and end of winter.
