Hi all, i have my 2 horses on a large livery yard with lots of horses coming & going, the fields are not poo picked and nobody will take ownership of a worming programme.

I am trying to move the horses to a better yard (not having much luck though) but until i do i am concerned that my horses will get a worm burden.

They are currently in as the fields are too wet and i wondered how best to worm my horses given the above situation.

The YO is a diary farmer and does not have a clue and will not enforce a proper programme, poo pick the field or insist on the horses being kept in when first coming on the yard.

Any suggestions.
 
To be honest I wouldn't worry too much.
In your situation I would contact a company like Abbey or Westgate and get work counts done periodically, then worm according to what the counts show plus encysted red in Dec (equest or panacur 5 day) and a tpewormer at least once a year (either/or/both Oct & April)
 
Speak to your vets, they normally have a recommended worming programme. My vets have designed one specifically for my livery yard, its a 2 year rolling programme with a worm count done every June. They will be able to advise you of what to do. They don't normally charge for advice, well mine doesn't, but did send a couple of bottles of wine down to them as a thank you, we don't have that much movement on my yard now but we used too, and you will always have those that dont worm I even had one livery who went around saying that our programme was useless as we used Panacur and that was only designed as a cow wormer and another one refused to double dose with Pyratape as she said she didn't want to kill her horse. I did have to laugh at their ignorance, fortunately got the vet to call them and explain that they had designed the programme and that what they were being asked to give their horses was correct.
