I have just recently got a new horse and have noticed she keeps getting large bumps on her belly, they are quite hard with a pimple in the middle so i think they are horse fly bites. They are very large for a couple of days and then go again, i have kept her in the stables and also turned her out full time and nothing seems to help her. I keep putting loads of fly repellent on her and she gets garlic in her feed morning and night, a fly rug wouldn't help as the are right behind where the belly straps would go. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Any ideas how i can try and prevent this from happening.

Thanks

i would say bites aswell put tea tree oil on her bites that will stop thm hurting and being itchy the best thing you can do is keep her in throw dusk and dawn and keep going with her fly spray and garlic!

Smother her bites in Whitchhazel this will take the swelling down and stop the the itching. Short of keeping them in you cant really stop them being stung, my old mare was always getting stung on her tummy, they kick the fly and thus swash the fly against themselves.

Try Piriton. My vet told me to give Daisy 6/day. Its those horrid black flies that do it.

I've tried fly spray but the only thing that keeps them off is Avon Skin so Soft.
