To avoid clogging up Karan's post about her lovely spaniel I thought I'd start a new thread as Cinnamontoast asked for some photos of my Large Munsterlanders :) (admin please note I have permission to use these photographs)

I've got three 'munsters' now and am active in the munsterlander community which is a small and friendly group of gundog loving nutters!
Munsterlanders are classed as a versatile gundog in the hunt point retreive category. They originated in Germany and are closely related to the german pointers. They're a complex dog who needs lots of understanding but boy oh boy they are worth every second!

My oldest is Kaia, who is 9 1/2.
My first Munster and an interesting start. We call her our autistic dog as poor socialisation at the breeders left her lacking in some departments. Despite her nerves and special needs she is the sweetest, most gentle dog you could wish for, there isnt a single bad bone in this sweet girls body.

Next came Loki, now 8 years old
Loki was the pick of the litter and I have had a lot of fun showing him, competing at Crufts for 5 years and enjoying success. He is 'my boy' a real mommys boy who dotes on my every word. He is gentle, sensitive and loving, the typical big friendly giant. He has sired one lovely litter. He is one in a million to me and I will never find another just like him.

Lastly is the baby of the group Keiko, who is 2 1/2.
Keiko is Loki's neice, sired by Loki's Full Champion brother. Despite the relationship they are very different, Keiko knows her own mind, is a very headstrong out going girl who lives for her daily hikes regularly covering over 6km per day. She's a pocket rocket with bags of personality. However she also has a sensitve shy side and is a bit of a cuddle monkey when she's tired. She is now my show girl and we compete lightly throughout the year enjoying our little trips out together. I am planning on mating her on her next season for puppies summer 2017, very excited.

Love them all dearly xxx

They are absolutely gorgeous! I used to have Weimaraners back in the day and they were fairly challenging but I adored my dog Otto and was heartbroken when he developed cancer and I lost him. The HPR breeds certainly keep you on your toes!

LOvely dogs and what a brilliant photographer. I haven't met many but they seem to have the energy and drive of a spaniel in a bigger than lab body. Would that be right?

Sort of, they arent as manically energetic as a spaniel and tend to have a far stronger hunting drive. They are very people orientated dogs which means separation issues can be a problem but they are also very loyal. They range in size between the small bitches who was lab sized to the big dogs which are considerably taller. There is also no difference between the show dogs and the working dogs (like you see in spaniels) they're all the same and many do both successfully, also being very intelligent dogs they are capable of pretty much all activities you'd want to try. I know of munsters doing agility, canicross, obedience, working trials, field trials, rally, bikejor, flyball, working with guns, working with birds of prey, PAT dogs etc.

Thank you for doing this! They are such beautiful dogs. The two younger dogs have amazing colouring! The shape of their eyes remind me of flat coats.

When you say complex, what do you mean? Are they not a good first dog, for example? The strong hunting drive would concern me, although my lot couldn't have stronger drives! I met lots at the game show a couple of years ago at Belmont (?) and was so impressed with them. I really like the look of them, size wise and conformation.

The two younger ones are the more typical coat colouration, though they do range from mostly white to almost completely black, it all depends on the amount of ticking and roaning.

By complex I just mean that they are all a bit different so although there re lots of breed traits they are all quite unique, my three are all very different really. As such 'good first dog' really depends on which one you get, my dog would be a lovely first dog but my to bitches require a little more understanding (not due to naughtiness though).
The hunting instinct is strong but so is their capacity to learn, so decent training as a puppy to get a proper recall is all thats needed normally. They are however excellent with household pets as it's not a drive to kill stuff, just a drive to flush and locate game, which they are normally naturally excellent at.

We had springer spaniels and collies before but I wanted a larger dog and saw them at Crufts aout 12 years ago and just fell in love. I'm now hopelessly hooked as you can tell. Keiko's litter will be my first experience of breeding and I'm both excited and terrified in equal measure, lol! I've spent ages finding a suitable stud dog with good health tests and complimentary pedigree and hopefully have the perfect match lined up, just a waiting gme now until her next season.

Beautiful dogs. My mother had two many years ago. One from Bovellas and one a Ghyllbeck - no idea if either breeders are still going. Very strong working skills.

Bovellas dont breed any more but Ghyllbeck is still going strong and they have a couple of very very successful dogs out competing at the moment, their main dog was Best Dog at Crufts this year and last.
