Dylan came with a bag of Bakers so we have used that and now have about a weeks worth left, so wanna spend next week mixing in a new decent feed. He gets Butchers puppy can mixed in with his dry. And a bit of goats milk as well (vet said to continue it until 12 wks).

Sooooooo new food for a rottweiler x st bernard, hes not had any tummy problems and is defo growing. He gets three feeds a day. Cannot of love nor money find James Wellbeloved Large Puppy (which is what OH used before on Burmese and OES) around me so have bought a small bag of Autarky to try (man in petshop had his Rotty on this as a pup).
Tempted to mix some tripe in as well instead of canned?? (he should eventually go on raw but need to read up on that before I start).

Any ideas or does this sound ok???

Bakers is crap, I would take him off that ASAP. Not sure why the Butchers? Canned food has huge water content, it has very little nutritional value, tripe would be much better.

Autarky is not a bad food.

Beware of puppy foods with rocket-fuel protein levels for large breeds, it can cause growth rate problems, the dog will shoot up and it puts pressure on the joins.

We didnt want to change Bakers straight away (I know its pants) but new house for him; stress from being away from litter and then added stress new food was worried it might be too much all in one go as at the time he was 8 weeks :( but hes nicely in a bit of a routine now which is why we are changing now. I suppose the only reason for the Butchers is to add some texture and wetness to the dry he literally gets a tablespoons worth mixed in. Thats why I wondered if tripe would be better but hes just 10 weeks now and would that be too rich??

Arden Grange I looked at that and it was a toss up between that and the Autarky the only thing that swayed me was the pet shop owner who had experience with rottys. ( said hes had four from puppies)

Its actually to little protein that will cause joint and growth issues.

The thing in a large dog food you have to look for is calcium to phosphorous ratio.

Without a doubt i would go with orijen or Arden grange if you have to but get him on to raw as quick as you can.

Thinking about it i would probably rotate the orijen and Arden so one bag of orijen then one of Arden ect ect.

I will put another vote in for Arden Grange. My GSD pup has the large breed mix and has always looked great on it, and an added bonus is that the vets won't bother to do the Science Plan sales speech when you tell them what he's eating. :p
