So, Larkhill is cancelled..

Can't say I'm surprised after today's weather. I wouldn't want to be running in this weather either.

I rang this morning at about 11am to be told there were blue skies over Salisbury and all was going ahead.. So I bathed, plaited and studded 3 horses, made up 3 beds, then went home to warm up and dry off.. I was starting to suspect a cancellation so rang again to be told it's still on. Returned to the yard to clean 6 saddles, 5 bridles and 8 bits, loaded the lorry, mucked out, fed up and came home. Only to receive a phone call about the inevitable. Aaaargh!!

Poor you! What a nightmare. I was not going to be able to make it as horse has sore foot from ripping a shoe off on Wednesday. So quite glad it has been cancelled or would have been very jealous.

What will happen about RC qualifiers? They only have till the 8th to get qualified. Does this mean people like me who came 3rd recently might qualify through default.

Hmm, hadn't thought about that. Although qualifying other RC's through default might be an option? Three quarters of our team are supposed to be at Tweseldown next week so I guess that's it for our open team.

That's much worse than being told it's off in the first place, how bloody frustrating!
I wish half the places that have cancelled would consider running later this year, at this rate we won't have anything left to compete at..

How annoying! I am clearly not destined to get round a novice course this half of the season, and have given up trying until September! I really thought it might run and was so pleased to have got a late entry, hey ho.

HH I agree, I hope some reschedule.

Oh well, next plan is a late August PN to kick us off again...at least I now have plenty of time to ensure we can manage medium strides consistently!

It was incredibly frustrating.. We decided to take advantage of the good going on our forest greens, clean stud holes and a loaded lorry and go galloping for a morning, so at least some of my efforts weren't in vain!

I'm not sure any of the BE ones can re-schedule, can they? I thought once the timetable was set it was cast in iron for the year? Hopefully some of the unaff ODE's will see an opportunity later in the year.

lol SpottedCat, first thing my trainer said when I told her it was cancelled was 'now you've got lots of time to learn how to do a proper sitting trot..'

So sorry it was cancelled that is such a rarerity for Larkhill!! Mind you it does rain harder there and wind blows harder than anywhere else in the world so my guess is that it wasnt just the ground but perhaps the SJ's wouldnt stay up either as its always gale force winds!
Who is your trainer Shaab?!

We did have soo much rain yesterday, I just wish I'd known it was going to be cancelled before lunchtime! And yes, Larkhill is definitely the coldest place on Earth! My trainer is Anna Bruce, she's a journalist for horsey mags and was one of the Ferderick's protegee's. (And has improved my riding immeasurably; I'm not ashamed to give her a 'plug'!)

It is a nightmare when youve got everything ready and then find its cancelled. Once I got up at 4 am drove 3hours to an event with 2 horses and then found it was cancelled!!
Yes I agree with you about Larkhill- even when the rest of the country is in a 30 degree heatwave your guaranteed to be frozen to the bone at Larkhill !!
Anna Bruce- I will keep an eye out for her- she sounds good!
