Has anyone dealt with this in a dog.
A friend is thinking of taking a flat coat from a rescue the dog is currently suffering with this .A neutered male 18 months old.He has old just come to the rescue and so he is to be seen by a a good veterinary hospital and will be assessed for possible surgery.
Has anyone deaslt with this,
What are the success rates and are there any long term implications .
They are experience flat coat owners and would love to give this boy a chance.

He is in a foster home with flat coat rescue.
My friends are concerned about
a)the possibility of complications meaning pts in the not too distant futurer so close to loosing their old flat coat and
b)racking up large vet bills as any insurance will surely exclude that condition and problems relating to it.
They are retired though fairly comfortable off large on going vet bills are a worry .
I wonder if this is really a no no but he looks soo like their old boy they have been smitten (thinking with heart over head.)

Is this the same as larangyeal paralysis? Sorry, I've googled but I can't tell. If so, it's a very tricky op but can be successful. I rescued a frankly knackered old deerhound lurcher and he wheezed and gasped the whole time. He seemed unable to bark. But after a delicate op, after which he needed a bit of intensive care, he had a new lease of life. He had 3 happy years of retirement after that; not bad for a clapped-out 9 year old when he came to us, bless him.
