My 12 yr old lab had her last walk yesterday. Not as bad as it sounds. I took her out on a slow amble for about 15 minutes and she struggled to breath the whole time, wheezing and coughing. I actually thought I would have to carry her home, not easy with a 28kg lab. Her tongue was changing colour from a healthy pink to a bluey tinge.
Forward to today, galloping round the garden and rolling about squashing daffodils, she smells lovely. I am not taking her out again, she can exercise herself with her daughter in the garden which we are lucky enough to have about 1/2 acre.
My vet suggested not to have tieback op as can be problematic with eating and drinking.
Having done lots of reading on the subject of laryngeal paralysis seems to be a neurological problem which affects the hindquarters which she has, back end wobbly and poo popping out without her being aware.
I will keep her going as long as she has quality of life which she has now.
Have any of H & H 'ers dealt with this horrible problem and what has been the outcome?
