Anyone had this done? How was the recovery ? My mare is going in for it tomorrow and am worrying something rotten

works well. recovery depends on how big an area they have to laser off. obv slight risks with a GA. it recovers like a big nasty open wound, slowly, sometimes it can granulate but your vet will be keeping an eye on it. good luck hope it all goes well.

My vet recommended my mare have the flat one on her belly (about size 50p) lasered if it got any larger. Having monitored it over the past year it has not grown any bigger though so have not gone down that route yet but would be interested to hear how you get on. Hope all goes well wishing and speedy recovery for your horsey :)

My friend's horse had such bad sarcoids that they were starting to effect his quality of life. She had them lasered off as the last resort and the results are amazing. The sarcoids on his sheath and between his hind legs were very big so the lasers left big wounds but they have healed so well. She has since taken him back and had the ones on his head and belly removed because she was so pleased. A year later they show no signs of reoccurrance and he is sarcoid free for the first time and she is now able to ride him again.
The wounds do look scary and need to be looked after carefully so that they don't granulate or get infected but to be honest we were more worried then the horse was. He was very good to have the treatment and was no problem with the constant bathing of the wounds. If any of my horses ever had a sarcoid I would have it lasered off straight away.

Bit of an update - the asering was done and a biopsy taken, and sure enough it was a sarcoid. The mare is now being treated with some UV reacting cream to make sure it has all gone. She is absolutely fine and full of herself, which is good, so I am hopeful taht once this is done it will be the end of it!
