So my Dartmoor has lived out rugless through winter and has grown a very hefty coat.
I'm riding him around once a week at the moment but it will be more as the evenings get lighter.
Even walking him out for 20mins is causing him to work up a real sweat and it can't be comfortable for him.
When is too late to clip?
First pic is before ...second is when we got back after literally a 20 in walk.

I still have to do one last clip on the Connemara who had a couple of months off but now is back in work and getting hot. I’d rather tolerate lines in a summer coat than hot sweaty horses and moulting.

I clip mine feb/march most years, always comes back well enough that I often clip in July as well as they get too sweaty!

Mine are hot hairy hippos, I don't mind lines as much as I mind miserable ratty itchy pponies.

I keep mine warm so the coat does not grow back much, she was clipped in November and does not need another, even though I wont clip after january.

Thanks All. I've decided to clip this weekend.
Undecided if I'm going to take it all off, or just neck and sides.

As the weather is turning Colder again, I'm thinking I'm going to have to rug him in either a no fill or 50g.

Wish this weather would do one now, I'm desperate for some nice warm continued sunshine!!

I clipped my boy today .....no wonder he was hot. The coat that came off filled a whole wheelbarrow!!!
He feels much better.
I've put him out in a 50g rug but when checking on him at about 6pm, he was really warm so I may have to change it to a no full!!
